You are a person worthy of love.
You don’t have to do anything to experience love.
You don’t have to do anything extreme to experience love. You don’t have to climb Mt. Everest, create a show that goes viral on YouTube, sing and dance like Beyoncé, or cook every meal from scratch using ingredients plucked from your organic garden. If you have never received an Oscar and have no trophies on your shelves proclaiming your exceptional gifts, you are worthy of LOVE… “I am loved because I am.”
Self-love is a process that requires knowledge and effort. Practicing Self-love involves knowing your core self and caring for it by attuning to yourself so you can be responsible for your needs. Self-love requires respecting your unique individuality. By investing in your well-being through practicing self-love, you will receive the gift of feeling secure. Standing in Self-love creates space for you to be YOU!
An emotional challenge of my job is watching the pain that my patients feel when they do not feel worthy of Standing in Self-love. I often think, “If they only saw themselves the way I see them.” Shame is the circuit breaker for Self-love. Shame is feeling bad, broken, and/or unworthy of love, and it leads to fear of your true Self being seen.
Shame affects our Self-image, emotional regulation, and capacity for relationships. It is caused by mis-attunements of love and care from parents. Or experiences of feeling emotionally abandoned, rejected, harshly treated, or neglected in the early years of childhood.
There is good news: you can give to yourself what was not given to you. You can learn to be present with yourself, be responsible for your needs, have Self-care, and create a secure positive, balanced self.
Standing in self-love is an art of active concern for the life and growth of the masterpiece that is YOU!
With love, XXOO,
